Composition Assignment: Good vs. Bad

This is a picture representing good composition. Out of the three statues the man on the left stands out the most as the focal point because he is in the foreground (closest to the front and also takes up the most amount of space in the picture). The man is the first thing that catches your eye and then it goes across in the picture to see the child and the woman statue.

This picture of a fire hydrant represents good composition. The orange color of the fire hydrant stands out against the rest of the picture making the movement of your eye go to the upper left part of the picture first. Since there is more color in the top left half the eye looks there first and not at the half with the sidewalk.

This a picture representing good composition. The bench is much closer to the left of the picture at an angle and the sunlight is coming in from that side. There is a lot of grass in the front of the picture, but that negative space brings the eye up immediately and makes the bench the focal point of the picture.

This is another picture of a bench, but one that represents bad composition. The bench picture was taken straight on so it lacks depth and is in the center of the picture making it seem as if it is "in jail." Also the color of the bench is very similar to the color of the sidewalk and doesn't stand out against the sidewalk.
